The Rules
Rescue Host is a community service and we expect that all members of the community will act like adults and not ruin it for anyone else. We trust you to use the service as it was intended, and if we feel you have betrayed our trust we will not hesitate to terminate your account.
That said, here are some guidelines to keep everything running smooth:
- We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason. Although we would realistically have a pretty good reason for it, we also reserve the right to terminate any account for any reason. It sounds harsh, but this is standard fare for just about every web host out there, free or not.
- Rescue Host's servers are located in the United States and so we require all hosted sites to abide by United States laws. The most common issue in the web hosting industry is copyright infringement, and we have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to hosting copyrighted material you don't have permission to host. We aren't going to jeapordize our organization so that you can share MP3s with your friends.
- You will not use your account to send unsolicited bulk email. If you run a mailing list your users must have opted in and must be able to easily opt out.
- This service is for animal rescue, welfare, and education organizations. Commercial store fronts are not allowed. Organizations are allowed to receive donations and may sell goods for fundraising purposes only. If your site receives donations or does particularly well fundraising, we wouldn't be opposed to receiving a small donation to help keep the service running.
- Users are responsible for keeping any third party scripts up to date with the latest security patches and updates. Any scripts found to be a threat to the server are subject to removal at our discretion.
- Users will not attack the server or any other account on the server. Users are responsible for keeping any usernames and passwords secure and any actions taken under a given username will be the responsibility of that user.
- While we like to foster a free speech environment, we can not allow hate speech or discriminatory content on any website on our server. We try to catch those organizations during the application process, but just a heads up that if you slip through and we find you later, we'll ask you to clean up your act our get out.
- In general, common sense applies. Don't do anything stupid, and if you ever have any questions about what is and is not allowed, just ask.
